RoadWorthy Released

Select International, headquarter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, recently released RoadWorthy for use. RoadWorthy is an impartial assessment that helps in making informed and intelligent selection decisions when recruiting, selecting, hiring, and training new truck drivers.

Select International provides its expert systems globally. These services are primarily are useful in outsourcing the recruitment process for trucking companies that are cutting their human resources staffs. The assessment products make the selection process more streamlined and reliable.

RoadWorthy is based on the company’s immense amount of comprehensive selection was has been validate. The product was specially designed to test and assess possible driving candidates to determine how they measure up with regard to performance, safety, and reliability.

Select International rolled out RoadWorthy officially at The American Trucking Associations Management Conference and Exhibition, held October 4 through 7 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

RoadWorthy is a tool that transportation carriers can use to predict the suitability of new candidates for employment with their companies.

The initial test measures and records important information about a candidate’s characteristics like risk-taking ability and behavior, general including driving style, risk assessment capabilities, and other fundamental abilities needed to operate a commercial truck efficiently, reliably, and safely.

RoadWorthy then takes the applicant’s answers, analyzes them, and recommends the candidate for further training and retention with the trucking company.

Moreover, the assessment tool can test the various types of drivers, be they local delivery drivers or over the road truck drivers.

While RoadWorthy is a web-based test, applicants without computer access can use a telephone-based interactive voice response system in the future. Select International is currently working on this solution.

Glynn Spangenberg is the senior vice president at Select who is launching the new product. Spangenberg has nearly 25 years’ experience in executive business operations in logistics and transportation. Before joining Select International, he was the general manager and vice president of Qualcomm.

Select International tapped the professional expertise of Winfred Arthur, Ph.D., who is the chairman of the Department of Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Texas A&M University, a respected industry expert on human safety factors. He was instrumental in the development phase of RoadWorthy.

The trucking industry has been experiencing a profound shortage of truck drivers. The industry is tapping into a pool of nontraditional candidates like never before, and assessing them to evaluate risk factors is more crucial than ever, said Arthur. Transport carriers urgently need to seat drivers, but making unsound hiring decisions will lead to poor economic performance and sometimes catastrophic consequences for both the carrier and the public at large. Assessing commercial driver candidates prior to employment can lead to dramatic improvements in both safety and performance. It is just that predictable.
